A notary for Twin Towers and Men’s Central Jail.
Downtown LA’s Bauchet Street complex: Twin Towers Correctional Facility, Men’s Central Jail and the Inmate Reception Center. Send me the booking number and the document, and I arrange the visit.
How a Twin Towers jail notary visit works
- Find the booking number. The Sheriff’s Inmate Information Center shows it, along with the facility; you can also call (213) 473-6100.
- Send me three things: the facility, the booking number and the document. Scan it and I print it, or the family or the attorney’s office hands me the original.
- I arrange the professional visit at Twin Towers or Men’s Central Jail and confirm again before I leave, because court days, housing moves and lockdowns can change the plan. Downtown is a regular trip from my Culver City base.
- At the visit, the signer is identified, signs in front of me and, for a power of attorney, leaves a thumbprint in the notary journal.
- You pay after the notarization is complete, and the original goes to whoever you name.
The full walk-through, from first call to signing, is in the LA County jail notary guide.
Inmate ID for a Twin Towers or Men’s Central notarization
California accepts “any form of inmate identification issued by a sheriff’s department” for someone held in a county jail (Civil Code §1185(b)(3)(D)), as long as it is current or was issued within the past five years. So the signer’s wallet can usually stay in jail property: before the visit I confirm the facility will have the signer’s inmate ID with them. If it isn’t available, two credible witnesses who know the signer can identify them under oath, as long as neither one is named in the document nor gains anything from it. Either way, we settle which route works before I drive out.
The Bauchet Street complex, briefly
Booking records name the exact facility, and I need it before I schedule. Here is how the downtown complex fits together.
Twin Towers Correctional Facility
450 Bauchet Street. Two towers run by the Sheriff’s Department; the Inmate Reception Center, where new bookings are processed, is part of the same complex.
Men’s Central Jail
441 Bauchet Street, directly across the street. It is a separate facility with its own housing and its own professional-visit procedure.
Arrested by a city police department?
The person may be held there first and moved to county custody afterward. The inmate locator shows where they are now, and that is where the visit happens.
What people at Twin Towers jail usually need notarized
- Powers of attorney so family can handle bills, accounts, a car or property
- Authorizations to release a vehicle or personal property, when the tow yard or agency asks for a notarized one
- Guardianship and caregiver documents prepared for the children’s care
- Declarations and other papers prepared by the defense attorney
- Real estate and financial documents prepared by escrow or an attorney
I don’t prepare, choose or explain documents. The attorney, the office asking for the document or the family supplies it, complete and unsigned; my part is the identification, the signature, the certificate and the journal.
Twin Towers jail notary questions
Is Twin Towers the same as Men’s Central Jail?
No. They are two separate Sheriff’s Department facilities facing each other across Bauchet Street, and the Inmate Reception Center is part of the Twin Towers complex. The booking record shows which one the person is in; I need that before I schedule the visit.
What ID does an inmate need for a notarization at Twin Towers?
The sheriff’s inmate identification works. California accepts any form of inmate ID issued by a sheriff’s department for someone held in a county jail, current or issued within five years (Civil Code §1185(b)(3)(D)). If it isn’t available, two qualifying credible witnesses can identify the signer under oath.
How soon can you get into Twin Towers or Men’s Central?
Often within a day or two. The facility sets professional-visit times and the person has to be available, so court days and housing moves can push a visit. Call with the booking number, and I’ll give you the earliest realistic window.
What does a downtown jail notary visit cost?
The jail visit package covers the coordination, the confirmation call, travel and the visit itself. Current pricing is on the jail notary page, every fee is confirmed before anything is scheduled, and you pay after the notarization is done.
Do you work with defense attorneys downtown?
Yes. Attorney offices can send the document directly, handle payment and get a confirmation when the signing is complete.
